C.S. Lewis once said, “ don’t let your happiness depend on something you may lose. “ When you let your happiness depend on a person or things you may have, you automatically open yourself up to pain.
It’s okay to have people around who make you happy, in fact you should have people around you who uplift you and are positive. What I’m talking about is depending on getting into relationships or buying million dollar cars in order for you to be happy.
In this generation, being in a relationship has became popularized. So many people are in a relationship and for some, they feel like they have to be in one as well.
When in reality, that’s far from the truth. I think one thing that causes relationships to not work out is not being
ready to be in one.
A person’s insecurities can ruin a relationship fast. That’s why it’s important to be able to truly love yourself before you love someone else. You need to be able to make yourself happy, the person you’re with shouldn’t be your #1 source for happiness.
Loving yourself is a long journey but it’s one that’s worth it. You love yourself by:
knowing your worth
saying no to things you don’t want to do
making yourself a priority
forgiving yourself for the mistakes you’ve made
It took me a while to accept myself for who I am and learn how to love myself. For years, I let people walk over me and let people stay in my life who didn’t respect me. Now, I know my worth. I don’t chase after people anymore, I’m content with myself. Don’t get me wrong, some days I wake up and don’t like myself but at the end of the day, I’m proud of who I’ve become and for how strong I am.
I wrote this because I see so many guys/ girls beating themselves up for “not being enough” for someone or constantly looking for someone to love. Being in a relationship is amazing, it’s great to have someone by your side. But one day, you’ll find someone who loves everything about you. Someone who will always be there for you no matter what the circumstances may be. Until you find the person who knows what you deserve and truly love you, loves yourself.
As always, I hope you enjoyed reading this and I hope you have a good day/night.
